Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the antifoaming function of slag considerably as compared to conventional known methods by charging moldings which consist of refractory materials, waste pulp scum, org. materials such as woodmeal or the like and a binder and have bulk density above specific values into a converter. CONSTITUTION:Moldings of >=1.2 bulk density consisting of 30-70wt% refractory materials (e.g.; silica sand), <=20wt% waste scum of paper pulp plants, <=20wt% org. materials such as woodmeal, pulp, cereal husks or the like, and <=30wt% a binder are prepd. For example, a phenolic resin which is an org. material and water glass or the like which is an inorg. material are used for said binder. The moldings are made by mixing the above-mentioned materials uniformly, and molding the mixture to lump shapes with a tray type or cylindrical type molding machine or sequeezing the mixture and molding the same to columnar or plate shapes. Next, a foaming phenomenon is suppressed by charging such moldings into the molten metal in a converter.
