Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of supercharging, by providing a chamber on an intake pipe located at the inlet side of a compressor section and by conducting high-pressure air into the chamber and injecting the air into the intake through oblique nozzles to produce an ejector effect and a swirl. CONSTITUTION:An annular chamber 8 is provided around a part of an intake pipe 6 located at the inlet side of the compressor section 4 of a turbocharger 2. A plurality of nozzles 9 are provided at circumferential intervals inside the chamber 8 so that the nozzles constitute an ejector 7. The nozzles 9 extend convergently in the direction of air flow and obliquely in the circumferential direction to cause a clockwise swirl. High-pressure air is conducted to the chamber 8 from a boosting compressor 10 driven by an engine 1. The high-pressure air is injected into the intake pipe 6 through the nozzles 9 to produce an ejector effect to increase the velocity of intake flow. The supercharging efficiency is enhanced by the ejector effect and the swirl.
