Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the fluctuations of a molten metal level in a mold by disposing many ultrasonic probes in the wall bodies of the mold, transmitting and receving ultrasonic waves from and into these, and analyzing the received waves thereby detecting the level of the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:Many ultrasonic oscillators 11, 12-1n are mounted in the suitable positions of the four wall bodies 21 of a mold 20, and the ultrasonic waves generated successively by these are propagated in molten steel 31. The transmitted ultrasonic waves are reflected by the boundary of the propagating media, and the reflected waves are inputted to a gate circuit 3 at every channel of a receiving circuit 2. Here, only the reflectd waves from the surface on the molten steel 31 side of inside circumferential walls 23 are drawn out and the outputs of the circuit 3 are inputted by each channel into a comparator 4 which compares these with a common threshold value, binary-codes the results and inputs the same into an arithmetic controller 5. Here, to which vibrator the binary coded signal is related is discriminated and the level of the molten metal is calculated. The result therof is outputted by an analog signal to a controller for a sliding nozzle of a tundish, etc.
