Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect inner cracks by an on-line system, by catching a returning signal of reflective ultrasonic wave after projecting an ultrasonic wave on an ingot. CONSTITUTION:When the inner nonflat-flaw in an ingot of cast iron, in the operation of contineous casting for molten steel, is detected by using a ultrasonic wave flaw detecter, the ultrasonic wave with frequency 0.5-0.2MHz is projected to the ingot of cast iron, and then the component value equivalent to the inner nonflat-flaw existing at the inside of the ingot is extracted from the detected value. (T indicates a transmitting signal, R is receiving signal, F1 is reflection from flat flaw and B1 is returning and damping signal value from rear face of the ingot. The most suitable frequency for the ingot of cast iron necessary to detect each flaw is in the area of 0.5-2.0MH2 under the use of an on-line system for the ingot, in consideration of S/N being high and the small area of damping constant.
