Abstract
PURPOSE: To titled drug, containing a compound which is a synthetic intermediate for a β-lactam antibiotic substance, having the inhibitory activity against β-lactamase, and capable of synergistically enhancing the antimicrobial activity of the β-lactam antibiotic substance.
CONSTITUTION: An antimicrobial activity enhancer and an antimicrobial composition, containing a compound expressed by the formulaI(R is H or ester forming residue) or a salt thereof, and having the enhancing action on the antimicrobial activity of β-lactam antimicrobial substance, e.g. ampicillin, amoxicillin or cephaloridine. The antimicrobial activity of the β-lactam antibiotic substance sometimes is deteriorated or lost by the cleavage and decomposition of the β-lactam ring by a β-lactam decomposing enzyme, (β-lactamase), but the compound of the formula which is itself a synthetic intermediate for the β-lactam antibiotic substance, has the inhibitory activity against the β-lactamase and is capable of synergistically improving the antimicrobial activity of the β-lactam antibiotic substance by the use thereof with the β-lactam antibiotic substance. The amount of the compound to be used is usually 0.1W10mol preferably 0.5W 5mol, based on one mole antibiotic substance.
