Abstract
PURPOSE:To equalize the distribution of the temperature of an air-cooled fuel cell, and prevent any corrosion of an exhaust heat recovering part such as a recuperator by separating paths through which reaction air is supplied into an air electrode and cooling air is supplied into cooling plates. CONSTITUTION:Several unit cells and several gas separating plates 1 made of carbon are stacked to make a unit, and thus made units and cooling plates 2 made of carbon are stacked alternately to make a stacked cell S. Air supplying grooves 3 and hydrogen supplying grooves 4 are provided on the surfaces of the gas separating plates 1 so that the groove 3 and the groove 4 extend in directions crossing one another. Reaction air, after being heated by exhaust air in a preheater 11, is fed through an inlet manifold 15 used only for reaction air into the air supplying grooves 3 of the stacked cell S, and is passed through an outlet manifold 15' before it is exhausted outside the device. Cooling air is supplied into the cooling grooves 2 of the stacked cell S by means of manifolds 16 and 16' used only for cooling air. A recuperator 17 is installed within the circulation path C, and is used for the utilization of exhaust heat and for the control of the cooling air of the stacked cell S.
