Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the high-rate electric-discharge characteristic of an organic electrolyte battery by using flake manganese dioxide as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:A battery is constituted by using a light metal such as lithium or sodium as a negative active material, manganese dioxide as a positive active material, and an organic electrolyte. As the above manganese dioxide, flake manganese dioxide is used. The above flake manganese dioxide is prepared, for example, by electrolyzing aqueous manganese sulfate solution of 0.5-2mol/l concentration by using a graphite plate as a cathode and titanium as an anode, at a current density of 0.5-1.5A/dm<2> and a temperature of above 80 deg.C.
