Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure straightness with high precision by detecting the turning angle of an inspection table which depends upon its movement. CONSTITUTION:A couple of straight guide surfaces 1 and 1 are arranged in parallel, and over an intermediate part of the arrangement between those guide surfaces 1 and 1, a material to be ground as a body to be measured is supported by a chuck 3 and a loose head stock 4 in parallel to those guide surfaces. Further, a tool rest base plate 6 where a tool rest 5 as an inspection table is fitted so that its position is adjustable is capable of sliding while guided under the material 2 along the guide surfaces 1 and 1, and consequently the tool rest fitted to the base plate 6 is movable along the material 2 while insulated from the material 2. Relative displacement detectors 7, 8 and 9 which detect relative distances from the material 2 are provided on the tool rest 5 at equal intervals of distance, so the turning angle of the tool rest 5 which depends upon its movement is detected.
