Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate dimension control of finished steel machine parts by compensating an amount of thermal contraction with that of expansion due to transformation and by determining desired dimensions of steel machine parts is such a manner that dimensions of a work piece upon cutting are made equal to that cooled down to room temperature.
CONSTITUTION: With setting a tool at the same position of a desired dimension as conventional steel machine parts in its room temperature state, a work piece C point temperature range is machined through cutting in its austenite phase. Thus, during a process of cooling down to room temperature after completion of the cutting in its austenite phase, the desired dimentions of steel machine parts are finally obtained by compensating an amount of thermal contraction C-D with an amount of thermal expansion D-E due to martenisitic transformation. C point is the temperature which gives an amount of thermal expansion equal to that of expansion due to martensitic transformation brought about during cooling down to room temperature from Ms point, and which is within a temperature range from 300W500°C, although it can be readily determined.
