Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the straightening not only during the heating period, but also during the cooling period, and to obtain the sufficient straightening effect, by inseting the second mandrel between the first mandrel and the thin walled cylinder, and by heating and next cooling.
CONSTITUTION: In case of straightening the shape of the thin walled cylinder 1 comprising the ferritic or martensitic steel, the second mandrel 3 is inseted between the first mandrel 2 comprising the austenitic heat resisting steel possessing a large coefficient of thermal expansion and the thin walled cylinder 1. The material of this inserted second mandrel 3 is specified as follows; the coefficient of thermal expansion is similar to or smaller than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the first mandrel 2, and the MS point (martensitic transformation point) is higher than the MS point of the thin walled cylinder 1. These three are assembled into one body and is heated and held for a specified period at temperatures higher than the austenitic transformation point of the material of thin walled cylinder 1; hereby, the first mandrel 2 expands both of the second mandrel 3 and the thin walled cylinder 1, and straightens the shape. Next, the assembly is cooled down to the MS point of the second mandrel 3; hereby, the second mandrel 3 expands to give a plastic deformation to the thin walled cylinder 1 and further improves the straightening effect.
