Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of defective products owing to mis-run by forming the grooves corresponding to the shapes of a grid body for the pole plate of lead storage batteries, filling Pb alloy powder in said grooves and heating the same to melt.
CONSTITUTION: Grooves 5 of the same shape as that of a grid body to be manufactured are formed on the surface of a mold body 4. Cast iron is generally used for the body 4, and the sizes of the grooves 4 are properly determined. Pb alloy powder 6 is filled in these grooves 5. The Pb alloy powder 6 is made of an atomization method, and its grain sizes are preferably about 100W150 meshes. Thence, with an inert gas as an atmosphere, the Pb alloy powder 6 is heated and melted while its oxidation is being prevented. As a heat source for heating, infrared rays 10 are irradiated by an infrared ray lamp 7 or a laser beam is used. When the Pb alloy powder 6 in the body 4 is irradiated successively by the infrared rays 10, the perfectly melted and solidified phase 8 is produced and the production of defective products owing to mis-run is prevented.
