Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a hole through the sheet coated on the inside of a pipe in the position of a branch pipe by providing a branch pipe location sensor and a heater rotatively and slidably on the base plates fixed within a gas main or the like. CONSTITUTION:Base plates 1 and 10 are fixed to a main pipe 24 by means of balls, 7 and 8 protruding in the radial directions. Rotating plates 5 and 9 connected by supporting shafts 7 and 8 are supported on the base plates 1 and 10 via bearings and are driven by a motor 4. A sliding plate 17 with a sensor 20 and a heater 23 is fitted to the supporting shafts 7 and 8. The sliding plate 17 is rotated by the motor 4 and slid by an external motor. The motor 4 stops when the sensor 20 detects a branch pipe 26. At the same time a half nut 19 engages with a threaded shaft 15 fixed to the motor 4 to drive motors 4 and 14 thereby making fine adjustment of the sliding plate position. Then the sliding plate 17 makes a half turn to align the heater 23 with the branch pipe 26 and lowers the heater 23 to make a hole through the sheet 25.
