Abstract
PURPOSE:To high accurately perform cutting work in a full range, by increasing rigidity of a main spindle at a low speed range while reducing heat generation at a high speed range, that is, by applying a pressure oil hydrostatic bearing and pressure air hydrostatic bearing to the bearing of the main spindle in a machine tool and selectively using the both hydrostatic bearings. CONSTITUTION:A main spindle 16, fixed with a rotor 138, is axially supported to a main spindle head 10, provided with a stator 132, by radial bearings 18, 20 and thrust bearing 40. The stator 132 and the rotor 138 constitute an electric motor, and excitation power of the stator 132 is controlled to control rotary speed of the main spindle 16. Each bearing is a hydrostatic bearing, provided with drain holes 26 at both sides of a jet 22, jetting pressure oil, and with a pressure air jet 30 in the outside of the drain hole, and rotary speed of the main spindle is measured by a unit 142 to feed pressure oil at a low speed range and use the bearing as an oil hydrostatic bearing, while at transfer to a high speed range, a drain open-close valve 102 is closed with a time delay from a pressure oil open-close valve 82, and residual oil in the pressure jet 22 or the like is removed to use the bearing as an air hydrostatic bearing at a high speed range.
