PURPOSE:To obtain easily a polarizing film having a polychromatic polarizing pattern by allowing a sublimable dichromatic dye to be adsorbed on an oriented high molecular film by sublimation. CONSTITUTION:A sublimable dye of azo, anthraquinone, mercoyanine or stilbene provided with the characteristic of a dichromatic dye having light absorbing anisotropy in the direction of the molecular axis or a direction perpendicular to the axis is printed on or applied to a carrier 2 such as silk paper, a polyester film or a metallic sheet. The carrier 2 and a high-molecular oriented film 1 are superposed on each other so that the dye holding face of the carrier comes into contact with the surface of the drawn film, and they are heated with a hot roller or by infrared heating or hot air spraying to allow the dye to be adsorbed on the oriented film by sublimation. An efficient method is a method of transferring the dye on the film by heating and pressurization.
