Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect rim and hub ends of a travelling tape without error by connecting a transparent tape to the rim and hub ends and utilizing the difference of levels of transmitted light transmitting the tape. CONSTITUTION:An opaque tape (the light transmission factor is 0.01% and less) is used for a rim and hub end detecting tape. When a magnetic tape part is travelling between an LED3 and a photo transistor 4, about 10% light is detected as transmitted light. The detected light is photoelectrically converted by a phototransistor 4 and amplified by an amplifier 5 and then the level is discriminated by a comparator. The rim and hub end discrimination circuit 7 is constituted so as to discriminate the magnetic tape part when the output of the comparator is logic ''1'' and a rim/hub end at logic ''0'' when a switch 8 is ON.
