Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the conversion of the cellulosic material in the raw material as well as starch to alcohol, by separating the starchy raw material into starch and refuse, saccharifying both components separately, and subjecting to the alcoholic fermentation.
CONSTITUTION: A starchy raw material is ground, and separated into starch and refuse by sieving. The starch is saccharified with a carbohydrase by conventional process to obtain a syrup. The refuse is sacchrified with a carbohydrase or an acid to hydrolyze the starch and cellulosic material contained therein, and filtered to obtain a syrup. The syrup derived from the starch and that from the refuse are combined together, mixed with alcoholic fermentation yeast, and subjected to the alcoholic fermentation by conventional process.
