Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a metallic magnetic thin film by applying a current and heating the thin film and oxidizing it. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium 20 which has a magnetic thin film of cobalt-nickel alloy on a base is transported from a supply roll 18 to a take-up roll 19 through metalic rollers 15 and 16 and a voltage is applied between the metallic rollers 15 and 16 from a power source 17 to flow a current through the magnetic thin film on the magnetic recording medium 20. Thus, passive layers made of oxide are formed on the surfaces 23 of columnar particles 22 constituting the magnetic thin film by Joule heat by said current, improving the corrosion resistance.
