Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the levels and shapes of blast furnace melts with good accuracy by inserting plural pieces of sondes of specific construction into the radial direction of a furnace from its top and letting off the weights at their respective leading ends successively in accordance with the descending of the charging materials in the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Plural pieces of sondes 4 each having a thermocouple 4-1 buried with its temp. measuring part in the high m.p. metallic weight 4-3 at its leading end are inserted through high m.p. flexible metallic pipes 4-2 into the radial direction of a blast furnace from its top by means of a feeder 5. The weights 4-3 of the respectives sondes 4 are brought into abutment to the surface of the stockline 2 of the charging materials and are let off perpendicularly in accordance with the descending of the charging materials. The let-off lengths thereof, and the concns. of the tracer gases emitted through the through-holes 4-4 of the pipes 4-2 are measured by moving a sampler 6 in a diametral direction, whereby the positions of the weights 4-3 in the height and radial directions in the furnace and the solid state temps. in said positions are measured. Further, the gases in the furnace are sucked through the through-holes 4-4 and their compsns. and pressures are measured. From these values, the level and shape of a melt zone 7 are measured.
