Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture magnetic heads which has excellent recording and reproducing characteristics by using ferromagnetic metallic thin belts with high magnetic permeability and oxide magnetic materials in combination. CONSTITUTION:While Mn-Zn ferrite is used as high-magnetic-permeability ferrite 22, Zn ferrite is used as a nonmagnetic material 23, and a block 24 is formed by glass bonding. In the block 24, a groove 25 where a metallic magnetic thin belt (20mum thickness) 26 is to be inserted is formed to a 25mum width and the thin belt 26 is stuck in the groove 25. A compound block having the stuck thin belts 26 is cut as shown by alternate long and short dash lines to form compound substrates 28 and 28'. The gap constitution surfaces 27 of the compound substrates 28 and 28' are polished into specular surfaces and a groove 31 for the formation of a coil winding window and glass-filled grooves 32 and 32' for connecting a rear-part core are formed; and the compound substrates 28 and 28' are joined together with glass so that metallic magnetic thin belt parts 29 and 30 correspond to each other. The joined body is cut as shown by broken lines X-X' and Y-Y' to obtain a magnetic head core 36.
