Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable production in a short period of time by forming notched grooves to the medium-sliding surface of a pair of magnetic core half bodies consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide, packing a ferromagnetic metallic material into these grooves and butting the core half bodies against each other a gap spacer, thereby constituting a working gap. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the notched grooves 10 are formed on the front face 16a of a substrate 16 consisting of an Mn-Zn single crystal ferrite having a desired shape and the base 17 thereof is inclined by a prescribed angle. A thin ferromagnetic metallic film 18 consisting of 'SENDUST(R)', etc., is then deposited and formed on the top surface 16a and the ferromagnetic metallic material 11 is packed therein. The thin film 18 is polished to expose the front face 16 and the substrate 16 is cut to 1st, 2nd core blocks 19a, 19b. A spacer 21 consisting of SiO2 is formed on a gap forming surface 20b. Track width control grooves 14a, 14b positioned between the grooves 10a and 10b are then formed on the forming surfaces 20a, 20b and a winding groove 15 is formed on the surface 20b. Bonding glass 13 is packed in the grooves 14a and 14b and thereafter, the half bodies 19a, 19b are joined. The front face 22a of such core block 22 is polished to a curved face of 5mm curvature to form the tape-sliding surface 9. The block is cut to a prescribed width to obtain head chips 23.
