Abstract
PURPOSE:To quantitatively monitor for certain the dimensions of a crack produced in a turbine rotor and the position where it has occurred by a method wherein a position detector, detectors for detecting the length and area of the crack and the like simultaneously with the use of the AE method and eddy flaw detection method are installed. CONSTITUTION:The main body of an apparatus for monitoring the remaining life of a turbine rotor consists of a position detector 1; a detector for detecting the length of a crack 2; a detector for detecting the area of the crack 3; a remaining life computer 4; and an alarm 5. The position detector 1 moves an eddy flaw detection element 8 inserted into a central hole 7 made in the center of a turbine rotor 6 so as to detect the position of the element 8 in the turbine rotor 6. In addition, the detector 2 for detecting the length of a crack receives a signal given by the element 8 and the position detector 1 and computes the length of the crack, while the detector 3 for detecting the area of the crack computes the area of the crack using the output signal given by the AE detection element 9. Thus the remaining life can be quantitatively monitored for certain.
