CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 1 such as photodiode for emitting light of a specified single wavelength and a photoelectric conversion element 2 such as phototransistor are arranged in a black box 7. An absorption cell 3 housing a sample water 4 is arranged in the optical path of a single wavelength light emitted from the light emitting element 1 while the photoelectric conversion element 2 is connected to a galvanometer 6. Light having a specified wavelength of 660nm is made to transmit sample water 4 containing silica and the quantity of light transmitted being absorbed in the sample water 4 is converted into a light current with a photoelectric conversion element 2 to measure the photoabsorptivity thereof. In this case, the photodiode herein used in this photo meter is a single wavelength light source dispensing with a spectrometer thereby eliminating diviation due to vibration and impacts.
