Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove arsenate ions and arsenite ions effectively by treating arsenic-contg. water with titanic acid or a compsn. consisting essentially of the titanic acid having anatase type or amorphous crystal structure.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. of titanium sulfate or titanium textraoxide is heated and is hydroxyzed or a base is added to the aq. soln. of these to neutralize the same. The resultant solids are washed and filtered out, whereby the titanic acid or a compsn. consisting essentially of the titanic acid having the anatase type or amorphous crystal structure is prepd. Arsenic is removed by a slurry system which suspends the powder of the titanic acid or the compsn. consisting essentially of the titanic acid in arsenic-contg. water, a system which passes the arsenic-contg. water through a packed tower packed with the compsn. consisting essentially of the titanic acid, etc. It is preferably to control the pH of the arsenic-contg. water beforehand to about 1.5W8.5.
