Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate the liquid leakage of a battery easily, quickly and accurately by incorporating elements which generate fluorescent X-rays in an electrolyte of the battery, irradiating X-rays to the battery, and detecting the presence or absence of the fluorescent X-rays generated by this. CONSTITUTION:As elements which generate fluorescent X-rays when irradiated with X-rays, one or >=2 kinds among potassium, zinc, rubidium, cesium are contained in an electrolyte of a battery. The primary X-rays emitted from an X-ray tube 1 are irradiated to the top surface of a battery 3, and when there is leakage of liquid, the electrolyte component elements are excited by this to generate fluorescent X-rays which are detected with a detector 2 and are decided as an electric signal. Thereby, the time required for the inspection is made >=1/20 that by conventional methods and the leakage of liquid is detected accurately.
