Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain molded soda ash with superior strength by subjecting a soda ash slurry to solid-liq. separation, drying the solid by heating, adding a prescribed percentage of a soda ash soln. to the resulting light ash, kneading them, and molding the kneaded material.
CONSTITUTION: A soda ash slurry contg. Na2CO3.H2O, NaHCO3 or Na2CO3. NaHCO3.2H2O (sodium sesquicarbonate) is dehydrated with a centrifugal separator or the like, and the dehydrated cake is dried by heating. To the resulting light ash is added 3W10wt% soda ash soln., and they are kneaded and molded to manufacture the desired molded soda ash. The soda ash soln. contains 5W35% soda ash, and it is further effective to add several% SiO2 to the soln. The molded soda ash shows high strength owing to Na2CO3.H2O in the added soda ash soln. and sodium silicate formed from the added SiO2.
