Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance sealing performance by forming ridges having a height of 1-50mum at the inclined surface of a seal lip on its anti-seal fluid side and by allowing it to perform screw-type viscosity pumping effect in both the regular and reverse directions. CONSTITUTION:A number of ridges or grooves, axially oriented, are provided at the inclined surface of a seal lip 5 on its external air side. The height of these ridges or grooves 11 shall be 1-50mum. Accordingly, rotation of the shaft 2 causes twisting of the seal lip 5 the more in the direction of rotation with its different parts nearer toward inside the casing, so that those fine-made ridges or grooves 11 are bent more in the direction of rotation with their part nearer to the sealing fluid side. Thus a screw type viscosity pump is formed.
