Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hot-mill roll improved in both of wear-resitance and roughening-resistance, by adding Ti and Zr to a low-alloyed high-carbon cast steel to enable the increase of C, Cr and Mo contents.
CONSTITUTION: The hot-mill roll is made of a steel comprising 1.0W4.0% c, 0.1W 1.5% Si, 0.2W2.0% Mn, 0.3W3.0% Ni, 0.5W5.0% Cr, 0.2W3.0% Mo, 0.1W3.0% Ti and/or 0.05W1.5% Zr, optionally 0.5W5% of one or more of V, Nb and W, and the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities. Eutectic carbide is uniformly dispersed in the structure at a rate of 5W30%. Ti is necessary more than the lowe limit, to make austenite grains fine and to reduce and minute precipitated carbide grains. If Ti exceeds the upper limit, coarse TiC grains would appear, resulting in reduction of ductility and a fatigue property. Zr is necessary more than the lower limit in the same way as Ti, to reduce the precipitation of coarse carbide grains and to minute the carbide grains. However, if Zr exceeds the upper limit, coarse ZrC grains would appear, resulting in reduction of ductility and a fatigue property.
