Abstract

PURPOSE: To give superior wear resistance and breaking resistance to a roll material by forging at a fixed forging ratio by specifying the contents of C, Si, Mn and Cr in a steel composition to crystallize coarse carbide in an ingot making process.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal consisting of 1.2W2.5% C, ≤1.5% Si, ≤1.5% Mn, 0.5W5.0% Cr, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities or further contg. one or more among ≤2.0% Mo, ≤5.0% Ni, ≤1.0% V, ≤1.0% W, ≤1.0% Co and ≤0.5% Ti is poured into an ingot case and solidified at ≤about 3.0°C/min cooling rate to form coarse eutectic carbide dispersed structure. By forging the ingot at 1.5W 5.0 central forging ratio, the coarse eutectic carbide is drawn almost parallelly in the axial direction of the resulting roll to reduce the occurrence of cracks and checks in the roll.
