The recesses B, B' are formed with the jigs 9, 9' on the top and bottom faces of the ingot 8, and the ingot is cut from the central part C thereof, whereby an ingot 11 provided with the recesses B, B' on the top and bottom faces in the both end parts is cut out. This ingot 11 is subjected to rough rolling, intermediate rolling and finish rolling, whereby the production of the shape steel having no crops in the end parts in the longitudinal direction is made possible.
