Abstract

PURPOSE: To make working easy and improve material yield by holding porous or void parts around the center of the steel bar.
CONSTITUTION: Porous or void parts of 2% or more and 50% or less in cross sectional area being continuous in the axial direction are provided around the center of the steel bar. The steel bar includes steel bars wound in coil form, and those normally called bar-in-coil, besides straight steel bars. The steel bars are produced by rolling the hollow slabs which comprise forming "rolling crack" in the central part of the slab by, e.g., a Mannesmann system, or forming "cavities" deliberately in the central part in continuous casting or which are made by centrifugal, Mannesmann, Earhart, or press mill methods. The holes of the slab are gradually pressed along with the progression of rolling and the periphery of the center of the steel bar becomes porous including oxides. Hole may be readily opened in the center of such steel bar by either cutting or blanking.
