Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the power factor of a power converter over a wide range and to enable accurate control of the output voltage of the converter by controlling the GTOSCR of one arm of a full-wave bridge circuit in response to the phase shift signal and a chopping signal synchronized with the signal. CONSTITUTION:SCR U1, V1, W1 of one arm of a full-wave rectifying bridge circuit are formed in GTO which interrupts a current by flowing a pulse reverse current to the gates, the phase angle of the bridge circuit is controlled with a phase shift siganl generator PS of a gate driving circuit GD, thereby converting the electric power between AC and DC. This circuit GD has a chopping signal generator CSG which controls the opening and cloing time durations of the respective GTOSCR and a gate pulse generator PC which generates a gate signal to the GTOSCR in response to the phase shift signal and the chopping signal, and the chopping signal CS synchronized with the phase shift signal is inputted to the circuit PC in the circuit CSG.
