NEW MATERIAL:The bissilylated xylene selected from α,α-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl)-o-xylene and α,α'-bis(dimethylchlorosilyl)-m-xylene.
USE: Intermediate raw material of organic silicon compounds, modifier of polyorganosiloxane, etc. It imparts mechanical strength and flame retardancy especially to polyorganosiloxane.
PROCESS: The objective compound is prepared by breaking 1,1,2,2-tetramethyl- 1,2-dichlorodisilane with the corresponding xylene derivative using an (O)-valent palladium-phosphine complex. For example, the objective compound of formula III can be obtained by breaking the compound of formulaI(X is Cl or Br) with the compound of formula II in the presence of a palladium-phosphine complex {e.g. Pd[P(CH3)3]4, Pd[P(C2H5)3]4, etc.}.
