Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for organic compounds, using safe raw materials and catalyst, without environmental pollution, economically in an industrial scale, by reacting an aromatic azo compound, CO and a specific organic compound in the presence of a molybdenum catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic azo compound such as the compound of formula (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl or halogen; m and n are 1W5) is made to react with CO and an organic compound having at least one OH group (e.g. methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, glycerol, phenol, etc.) in the presence of a molybdenum catalyst[e.g. Mo(CO)6, Mo2(CO)6(η5-C5H5)2, etc.], preferably in a solvent (e.g. methylene chloride, THF, etc.) at room temperature W200°C, preferably 100W 180°C.
