Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain H2 gas and a mixed gas of CO, CO2, and CH4 separately, relatively inexpensively, by reducing an oxide of a metal of the II or III group with a carbonaceous raw material, bringing the reducing substance into contact with H2O, and consuming repeatedly water and the carbonaceous raw material.
CONSTITUTION: An oxide shown by the formula MXOY of a metal of the II or III group is blended with carbon or a carbonaceous raw material and heated to carry out a reaction shown by the formulaI, and the oxide is reduced to a metal element and/or lower oxide shown by the formula MXOY-n. The reduced substance from the former stage is brought into contact with water and/or steam to evolve H2 by the reaction shown by the formula II and simultaneously to oxidize the reduced substance. Since in the operation the MXOY is specified as above-mentioned, water decomposition at low temperature of about 300°C can be attained. The reduction temperature, depending upon the kinds of the metal M and carbonaceous the raw material, is preferably ≥ about 400°C. If the temperature is too high, a high-quality material is required for a reaction tube, so it is not advantageous. The practical temperature of water decomposition is about 200W500°C.
