Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a binder having excellent working strength and final strength without evolving malodor by causing 4, 5-dihydroxy ethylene urea, formaldehyde supplying material, urea and furfuryl alcohol to react.
CONSTITUTION: The pH of an aqueous soln. in reaction is kept at about 1W3 and the temp. at about 80W100°C. 4,5-Dihydroxy ethylene urea is expressed by the formula, and the molar ratio to formaldehyde is about 1.5W4mol expressed in terms of formaldehyde content with respect to 1mol of ethylene urea. The formaldehyde content with respect to urea is about 1.85W1.25 molar ratios, and the amount of addition of furfuryl alcohol is kept at about 70/30W95/5 by weight based on the total weight of the other components. The reaction is stopped by controlling the pH to about 5W8 in the final.
