Abstract
PURPOSE:To transmit PCM picture signals efficiently in large quantities by multiplexing the output of an A/D converter, digit by digit, and then by performing the digit-by-digit optical transmission. CONSTITUTION:At a transmission side, A/D converters 14 convert picture signals into digital signals and the parallel encoded signals are multiplexed, digit by digit, by multiplexing circuits 15a on time-division basis. Then, the electric signal outputs of the circuits 15a are sent from optical transmitters 16 to transmission lines 7b. At a reception side, on the other hand, optical receivers 18 receive the optical signals sent from the transmission lines 7b and convert them into electric signals. The electric signal outputs of the receivers 18 are demuliplexed by demultiplexing circuits 19 and then processed by D/A conversion 20 respectively to output reproduced signals to respective channels.
