Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve insertion loss, to reduce an amplitude and a phase error, and to improve precision by adjusting the amplitude of a signal, branched into four sequences by gain adjustment under the drain current control of an FET, and synthesizing them. CONSTITUTION:After an input signal is branched into two, one component is shifted in phase by pi/2 through a pi/2 phase shifter 8, amplitude adjustment and polarity inversion are performed by balanced modulators consisting of elements 7-14, and 7'-14', and the resulting components are synthesized at a part 15 with a 90 deg. phase difference. Through the operation of the balanced modulator consisting of the elements 7-14, an input signal to the branching circuit 7 is branched into two, and one component is shifted in phase by pi; and two resulting 180 deg. out-of-phase branched signals are amplified, amplitude-adjusted, and weighted by FETs 10 and 11 to be synthesized at part 14. The gain adjustment of the FETs 10 and 11 is carried out by limiting the drain currents of the FETs 10 and 11 by varying the gate biases of FETs 12 and 13. The other balanced modulator consisting of the elements 7'-14' has the same constitution with the former modulator consisting of the elements 7-14.
