Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an access error to a faulty sector, by recording a special sector number in all sectors which have been decided as faulty, prior to use of a magnetic disk medium. CONSTITUTION:When a read-out or write-in command is received, a discriminating information signal 1 is stored in an IDSR, a sector discriminating area search mode is set, an AMCMP circuit becomes enable, information read out from a magnetic disk is sent to the AMCMP circuit and an address mark AM1 is detected. By its detection success display signal 10, a DNCT is made enable, and a signal 5 is generated from an FLDC. Information from the IDSR is compared with a read-out information 14, and when this comparison is unsuccessful, a failure display signal 7 is outputted from the AMCMP circuit, and the processing is shifted to detection of the AM1 of the next sector. When search of the sector results in failure, a special number is recorded in its sector by a signal 12. In this way, an access error to a faulty sector is prevented.
