Abstract

PURPOSE:To restore a battery or a cell by a simple method, and enable it to be used for a long time by reversing the polarity of the terminal voltage of a lead acid battery, which has a positive grid made of a Pb-Ca-Sn system alloy, through compulsory discharge when the capacity of the said battery is reduced. CONSTITUTION:In a lead acid battery prepared by using a Pb-Ca-Sn system alloy as a positive grid, the polarity of the terminal voltage is reversed through compulsory discharge when the capacity of the battery is extrememly decreased. For instance, a number of cells are connected in series, and are subjected to short circuit and discharge by means of a resistor before they are charged. By the means mentioned above, PbO and PbSO4 generated within the positive plate during the use of the battery are reduced to Pb owing to discharge carried out after the reversion, and the electrcial and mechanical connection between the grid and the positive material is improved due to the disappearance of the barrier of the positive plate. Consequently, owing to the restorartion treatment, the capacity of a battery made of a Pb-Ca-Sn system alloy is stabilized.
