Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy and the economy by detecting flaws from above marks on the surface to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:A latice striped mark 3 is painted centered on a weld section 2 of an object 1 to be inspected. It is so arranged that an ultrasonic wave 5b generated from an ultrasonic vibrator in a probe 5 hits the surface to be inspected and the state of reflected ultrasonic pulses on a cathode-ray tube 4a of an ultrasonic flaw detector 4. An optical device 20 provided in the probe 5 generates a light beam from a light source so that a bright point will be formed on the surface being inspected with a focusing lens 20b and the quantity of reflected light is detected with an image sensor. The number of vertical and horizontal lines on the mark 3 is counted separately and the position of the probe 5 is memorized or recorded in the detector 4. In the structure, the probe 5 is mounted on a rail gear 8 in which a circumferential surface set along the circumference of an object 1 to be inspected is made like a gear and an automatic driver 6 through an arm 7.
