Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the small spouting hole of an ink jet nozzle through which ink is spouted toward a recording medium from being clogged with ink by providing a passage interconnected with the spouting hole through which a liquid can be sent into the spouting hole. CONSTITUTION:A chamber 8 and an ink storage 3 are filled up with ink supplied through a pipe 7 and under this condition, when an electric signal is applied to a piezo-electric plate 10, pressure is applied to ink in the chamber 8 through a diaphragm 9. Due to this, ink in the ink storage 3 is sent to a spouting hole 2 and ink particles F are spouted toward a recording medium from an opening 2. When printing operation has been completed and the spouting of ink particles is stopped, a liquid 6 which is stored in a tank 5 and exists in a passage 4 enters the spouting hole 2 and pushes out part of ink from the spouting hole 2 and returns part of ink into the ink storage 3. By this operation, no ink exists, but the liquid 6 exists in the spouting hole 2, therefore ink is prevented from contacting with outside air and the spouting hole 2 is prevented from being clogged.
