In conventional liquid jet recording devices, ink is supplied from the ink container to the recording head by setting the ink pressure in the nozzles of the recording head to positive pressure, so that the ink ejection openings (orifices) are supplied even when the head is not being driven. This causes ink to drip, and even when the head is driven or ink is being ejected, the orifice surface becomes wet due to ink.
Since there are drawbacks such as not being able to eject normal ink droplets, in order to set the ink supply pressure to negative pressure, the ink liquid level in the ink container is located at a low place, and the actual ink supply is controlled by the ink supply. It relied on the capillary action of the ink within the ink flow path of the tube, recording head, etc. In such an ink supply mechanism, the ink supply pressure must be controlled to a negative pressure, and the positions and shapes of the ink container and the recording head are limited, which places restrictions on the liquid jet recording apparatus.

An object of the present invention is to provide an ink container for storing ink to be supplied to a recording head, the ink container having a movable wall that is movable in a direction to reduce the capacity of the ink container in accordance with consumption of the ink. This is achieved by an ink container characterized in that the ink supply pressure supplied to the recording head is controlled by the frictional force at the sliding portion between the movable wall and the inner wall of the ink container.

As shown in FIG. 1a, an ink container body 1
The ink filled inside is covered by a movable wall 2, and an O-ring 3 built into the movable wall 2
This prevents ink from flowing out of the ink container and air from entering from outside the ink container.
By driving the recording head of the liquid jet recording apparatus, ink in the ink container is introduced into the recording head through the ink discharge port 4. As the ink is consumed, the movable wall 2 moves with one side in contact with the ink and the other side in contact with the outside air, passing through the state shown in Fig. 1b, and then reaching the state shown in Fig. 1c. Complete the discharge of ink from the ink container. The O-ring 3 sandwiched between the ink container body 1 and the movable wall 2 slides on the ink container body 1, but since it is sealed,
The ink is completely isolated from the outside air, and the ink properties are stable. As shown in FIG. 2, an oil seal-shaped O-ring 5 can also be used. Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 3, the movable wall 6 can be constructed by integrally molding the edge into a cup shape from an elastic material such as rubber resin. In the ink container of the present invention, frictional force exists between the ink container main body 1, the O-rings 3 and 5, and the movable wall 6 due to the tightness, and this frictional force causes the ink sealed in the ink container to Negative pressure is generated within the ink container because it acts as a reaction force against the volume reduction due to consumption. By appropriately selecting the tightness of the O-rings 3 and 5 and the movable wall 6, the negative pressure applied to the ink can be controlled as desired. In addition, by making the inner dimensions of the ink container main body 1 parallel or tapered in the moving direction of the movable wall, the tightening of the sealing portion by the O-ring 3 etc. can be changed, and the movement of the movable wall 6 due to ink consumption can be changed. The characteristics of the negative pressure generated in the ink contained in the ink container can be arbitrarily determined. Further, in the movable wall 6 made of an elastic material shown in FIG. 3, by making the wall surface into a diaphragm shape, the change in the internal volume of the ink container due to the deformation of the wall surface is added to the characteristic of generating negative pressure due to the movement of the movable wall 6. be able to.

With the configuration described above, the ink supply pressure to the recording head can be set to an arbitrary value regardless of the level of ink in the ink container relative to the recording head of the liquid jet recording device, and the ink ejection opening of the recording head can be set to an arbitrary value. We succeeded in eliminating the negative effects on droplet ejection characteristics caused by ink dripping from the ink and wetting of the orifice surface. Furthermore, we have removed restrictions on the ink container installation position, shape, etc. when designing a liquid jet recording device, and we have developed not only so-called cartridge-type ink containers as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, but also stationary ink containers. It can also be applied to other systems by adding an ink replenishment mechanism. Further, the present invention can be applied to a liquid jet recording device in which a recording head and an ink container are integrally formed, and the driving method of the recording head is not limited, and the present invention can be applied to any inkjet type recording head.
