Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reliability by eliminating a breakdown during the formation of an optical communication cable by stranding optical communication lines each formed by covering an optical fiber with an FRP and a hot-melting type adhesive successively, and covering them with a thermoplastic sheath. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 2 is covered successively with a primary coat 3, a buffer layer 4, an FRP cover 5, and a hot-melting type adhesive layer 6 to form an optical communication line 1. Then, FRP-covered optical communication lines 1 formed as mentioned above are stranded and then covered with a thermoplastic resin sheath 7 by extrusion, and the adhesive layer 6 is melted by heat generated during said extrusion coating to adhere the FRP cover 5 and thermoplastic resin sheath 7 to each other, thus forming an optical communication cable. This method never causes the FRP cover to have a flaw, and the optical communication cable has high reliability and is free of a decrease in mechanical strength.
