Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the foam or the solid matter existing in the water and to prevent an error of flaw detection, by setting a detecting gate at a proper position between the transmitting echo of ultrasonic wave and the surface echo of a subject to be inspected and measuring the height of the echo within a gate. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic echo signal is converted into the electric signal through a probe 2 of an ultrasonic flaw detector of water sink system or water column system. This electric signal is supplied to a receiving part 9 to measure the echo height within a gate which is provided at a proper position decided previously between the transmitting echo of ultrasonic wave and the surface of the subject to be inspected. The height 15 of the echo is compared with a prescribed decision value signal 17 at a comparing part 16 to discriminate whether a reflected echo larger than the decision value signal exists between the transmitting echo of ultrasonic wave and a subject to be inspected. Thus the foam or a solid matter existing in the water between the probe 2 and the subject 1 is detected.
