Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a steel capable of ensuring a high yield point in spite of the low alloying element content even in case of a very thick plate and having toughness by specifying the composition of a steel used at a high temp. under the creep region, the bainite content and the relation between the bainite content and the coefft. of strength.
CONSTITUTION: This low alloy steel for high temp. use consists of ≤0.20% C, ≤1.00% Si, ≤1.80% Mn, 0.10W0,35% Mo, 0.01W0.10% V, 0.005W0.05% Nb and the balance Fe with impurities and has a structure contg. 15W65% bainite. The relation between the bainite content Bm and the coefft. Gf of strength represnted by the equation exists in the range bounded by (a), (b) and (c) of the diagram. The strength of the steel is not affected separately by the components and the structure but is affected synergistically. The effects of the components in the equation exerting intense influence on the strength and toughness at high temp. have close relation with the content Bm, and the effects are increased with an increase in the content Bm. From the correlation it is required that the content Bm and Gf represented by the equation are contained in the range of the diagram.
