Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a recording medium enabling recording with excellent stability regardless of irradiation of a laser from a tranparent substrate by providing a mixed layer of a specified metal compound and a metal and a metal recording layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:A mixed layer 5 comprising a metal compound 50-1,000Angstrom thick (e.g. Al2O3) and a metal (e.g. Be) are deposited on a transparent substrate 1 with a permeability exceeding 90% in such a manner that the volume percentage of metal in the layer 5 is even in the surface parallel to the surface of the substrate 1 but locally uneven in the surface vertical thereto. Subsequently, a metal compound layer 4 (e.g. SiO2) 10-1,000Angstrom thick, a metal recording layer 2 (e.g. Bi) and a metal compound stabilizing layer 3 are provided thereon and a protective film layer 0.1-10mu thick made of transparent material (e.g. polyester) as required. This provides a highly sensitive recording medium with a high signal- to-noise ratio eliminating confused hole shape in the information recorded.
