Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a thyristor converter by constructing a gate pulse generator of multiplexing series structure and switching it to a normal pulse generator system when a defect is produced in the pulse generator system, thereby eliminating the all stop of the thyristor converters. CONSTITUTION:Three circuit series A, B, C each of which applies a signal of a pulse generator PG to a light emitting element 3 to control an optical trigger thyristor VL, detects the forward voltage by a detector VD to feed it to a condition signal circuit LEC and controls the pulse generator PG are provided. A conduction detecting light emitting element LS is provided at each series light emitting element 3, the signal from the element LS is applied to a failure discriminator FD to control stop switches SA-SC provided at the respective elements 3. Accordingly, when the pulse generator system used presently is failed, it is instantaneously stopped, thereby continuing the operation by the other normal circuit system, thereby largely improving the reliability of a DC transmission system or the like.
