Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce mechanical losses of an output power of an engine by utilizing the oil pressure of a lubricating oil pump which is driven to rotate by the engine so that the load of a spring of an inlet or exhaust valve may be automatically varied to increase or decrease in response to the rotational frequency of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder 5 is concentrically provided on the top of a cylinder head 1 and has a piston 6 fitted therein. A spring 8 for urging a valve 2 to its normally closed position is disposed between the piston 6 and a spring receiving metal 7. Meanwhile, a pressure oil chamber 9 is provided in the rear of the cylinder head 1 and pressure oil from a lubricating oil pump 10 is introduced into the pressure oil chamber 9. With this construction, if the rotation of the engine is raised higher than the idle rotation, the pressure in the pressure oil chamber 9 is also raised and the piston 6 is caused to move upwardly in proportion to the rotational frequency of the engine so that the spring load to the valve 2 is also increased thereby. The amount of this increase of the spring load is set to a value equal to or greater than a value by which a force of inertia of a valve motion system increases in proportion to the rotational frequency of the engine, whereby jumps or bounds of the valve 2 can be assuredly prevented in the whole rotational area of the engine.
