Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a lightweight cylinder block by a method wherein a cylinder block main body drawn from sheet material to have a bottomed cylindrical shape as a whole and a skirt part main body are fixed by welding at a bottom plate part, and a cylindrical body for a cylinder bore is welded to circular holes of the two main bodies. CONSTITUTION:The cylinder block main body 4 drawn from sheet material to have the bottomed cylindrical shape as a whole and the skirt part main body 6 have respective openings in opposite directions. The bottom plate part 22 having the circular hole 24 punched therein of the cylinder block main body 4 and the bottom plate part 26 also having the circular hole 30 punched therein of the skirt part main body 6 are spot welded to each other. One end of the cylindrical body 10 constituting the cylinder bore is abutted against the peripheral edge of the circular hole 24 and is beam welded to the circular hole 30, while the other end is fitted into and welded to a circular hole 36 of a cover member 8 which is seam welded to a flange part 14 provided at the periphery of the opening part of the cylinder block main body 4.
