Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance of an Fe-Si-Al alloy and to prevent deterioration in the magnetic characteristics due to rust when the alloy is used as a material for a magnetic head, by combinedly adding specified amounts of Cr and P to the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: By adding Cr and P to "Sendust alloy" prepared by melting high purity Fe, Si and Al, an alloy consisting of 4W12% Si, 3W8% Al, 0.1W 0.7% Cr, 0.01W0.1% P and the balance Fe is refined. This molten alloy is cast, and a magnetic head for magnetic recording is manufactured by electric spark machining, mechanical working or other method. Thus, by combinedly adding Cr and P to conventional Sendust alloy, the corrosion resistance is remarkably enhanced without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics.
